Same Sex Marriage

I don’t understand the big deal about gay marriage.  Canada and a few other countries have allowed same-sex marriage for some time.  The overall effect is a few more people are married and not much else.

When people rant about not allowing gays to marry and that it is an abomination, what I hear in my head is that interracial marriage is wrong, or that the bible justifies slavery.  Most people no longer believe that these are wrong.  Those that are against same-sex marriage should look closely at their prejudices beliefs.

People like the illusion that laws provide. If we have a law for or against something, then that makes it morally right/wrong. So along this line of thinking, in order to accept a law that permits the marriage of homosexual couples, they would have to accept it as moral. Ironically, laws and morality seem to rarely converge, and so far, laws seem to do very little to prevent people from actually doing anything they want to do…but its a nice illusion anyway. I don’t agree with homosexuality, but I am not sure why I would want to force people into my belief system via the legal system….something tells me that doesn’t actually work….
